Are you a lone wolf or a pack animal?
I would describe myself as somewhat of a lone wolf, I tend to problem-solve on my own, and I find it easy to self-motivate and be consistent without needing the push from others.
That being said, I recognise that I need that sense of community around me and I recognise the value that it brings.
I think we all noticed during the pandemic how isolating life can be, and whilst I am heavily introverted and value (and need) my own space, I enjoy spending time with others, and in business, I value learning from others.
Some time ago I created the Phoenix Community as I wanted to create a space where people could continue to work on themselves, keep the momentum going and have support around them to embed everything they had started through coaching or on programmes. The community has been around for a little while now and it is such a lovely supportive space that I know is valued by those in it.
More recently I created a group on Facebook for 'Aspiring & New Business Owners from the Public Sector.' Whilst this is still very much in its early days, I am already seeing the business community element building, and it is great to see this grow each week. This is starting to become a place to network, support learn and grow, personally and professionally, which I am really pleased about.
It can be so easy to want to just get our head down and try to move ourselves forward, but there is a benefit in finding, and connecting with like-minded people. People who are further ahead on a similar path to you that inspire you, those that you can learn from, and those that simply give you those words of encouragement to keep you going when you need it.
Over the last couple of months reviewing the business, keeping community options was the easiest decision to make. There will be tweaks to what it looks like to make sure that it meets the needs of the group, but one thing was for sure was that a community space was most definitely needed.
Engaging with a community can be a challenge! - As an introvert, I can find group spaces a real challenge. I am not a fan of small talk. I find group conversations more difficult to engage in as I am happy to sit back and watch and listen. I also find that they can drain my energy really quickly.
However:
On the flip side, when I am in a space with people I can really connect with, people I can learn from, and people who are supportive and encouraging I get so much from them.
Have you found your community?
A supportive space with a collective of people who help you be you?
What do you notice is your biggest benefit from your community?
As you read this blog, reflect on what you believe your purpose is, and how it impacts your daily lives. I would love to hear yours :-)
Have a great rest of the week - May it be full of meaningful connections.
