Who comes to Phoenix for Coaching?
Let me introduce you to 'Client L'.
Client 'L came to me having lost her confidence during the first few months of COVID19. She wanted to be able to talk through some of the things she had experienced and how she felt. She had noticed a significant loss of self-esteem and an increase in feelings of anxiety and low moods.
She also wanted to talk through some practical things that she could put into place to help rebuild her confidence and improve her mindset. Client 'L' in her words had 'tried and failed' to get back on track every week of lockdown and was worried that things were getting worse, not better.
Client 'L' booked the 6-week plan. We agreed that 3 sessions would be a good number of sessions to talk through what had happened, how she felt and implement some small changes with time to review and amend. We talked through the option of extending if it was felt necessary at the end of the plan.
The plan also gave her the reassurance that she could contact me between sessions if she had any questions or wanted to review something before waiting for the next session.
In the first session, we spent time exploring the things that had changed during the first COVID19 lockdown. We split the initial part of the conversation into two parts.
Firstly we listed out all the things she was unable to do due to the restrictions, and all the normal routines and habits that had changed/stopped in those months.
Secondly, we talked about the less helpful behaviours she had increased as a result of the stress and feelings of anxiety with everything going on.
We talked through the impact created by the changes in her habits and behaviours. Client 'L' talked about how each of the activities would improve her mental, physical and/or emotional health. She identified which ones she could reintroduce as they were not restricted, and she identified three that she felt she could start doing immediately without creating too much pressure on herself.
We talked through which 'one thing' she could do each day that would have the most significant impact and she committed to that 'one thing' each day. and where possible, aim for the others at the top of the list as well.
At the second session, we talked through how things had gone. We reviewed the habits and behaviours that she had been able to bring back into her routine relatively easily and the ones that had been more of a struggle. We talked through what could be amended to help make this easier and some alternative options that would be more sustainable or easier for her to be consistent with. We identified some of the blockers that were getting in the way, identified how to remove them and created the next steps.
During the second session, we also spent some time discussing some of the internal chatter that she was experiencing. Working on the mindset to work alongside the practical changes.
When Client 'L' returned for the third session there was a noticeable difference. She entered the call with a big smile and relaxed body language. We reflected on the changes she had made, again we reviewed what had worked well, in particular, what she was doing differently that was helping the consistency in changes. We then spent some time discussing what hadn't worked as well, looked at why, and then made some amendments and talked through the next steps.
We spent some time identifying what had triggered the initial changes. Now that Client 'L' was in a more positive headspace we were able to look at the journey from a variety of perspectives. She was able to 'step back' and look at the bigger picture, track the steps back and see what had triggered the changes and the impact each change had triggered within her. This allowed her to then identify some 'red flag' warning signs to look out for in the future.
Over the 3 sessions Client 'L' was able to reflect, reset, and embed changes that were working for her. Some practical changes paired with some techniques to improve mindset and confidence worked well together.
She had taken action which had created a positive change, had a plan to continue, and a system in place to keep her progress under regular review.
3 sessions, 6 weeks of support, and a client who had turned things around leaving the plan happy, confident and in control of life.
