Always look on the bright side of life – How far could positive thinking take you?

“Ahh Zoe your incessant positivity is really annoying”

Interesting!

If my positive thinking is one of the more annoying things about me then I can live with that.

It is not a problem for me!

I am not positive all the time, I do have to force myself to look for the positives sometimes, but I do make myself do it.

I am partial to a little rant, a day in a grump but even on those days I find myself sitting down and arguing positives to all the negatives floating around in my head.

Life is tough, it is never all sunshine and roses but one thing I will always say to people is that you will see what you look for.

Look for positives and you will see positives.

Look for good people doing good things and that is what you will see.

Look for kindness and you will see people doing acts of kindness.

Positive thinking increases your wellbeing

Yonsei Medical Journal in 2007 - Korean researchers Ji Young Jung et al found that there was a strong connection between positive thinking and overall life satisfaction in the population. There is an increasing amount of research that suggests positive thinking and a positive mental attitude can improve your mental wellbeing.

Positive Visualisation works

You may not have what you are working for now. If you are working towards it you are already taking positive action to support positive thinking. Take notice when you take steps closer towards your goals. See it – Believe it – Achieve it.

See what it will look like, believe that you can make it happen. Invest the energy and emotion needed to achieve it.

Birds of a feather flock together

Surround yourself with positive people. People who have the energy and behaviours you want to have. Have you heard of ‘Mirror neurons’? These are brain cells that help us learn, empathise and imitate what we see, even if we aren’t always consciously aware of it.

Surround yourself with positive people and you will learn their behaviours, you will learn their coping strategies, language they use.

Look at who you spend time with. Is this helping you?

There is no way to happiness – Happiness is the way

If you are waiting for something to happen before you are happy then you may be waiting a long time. The ability to be happy now, with what you have, is already right there within you.

If you are looking for a change in circumstance, change in job, change in people around you, then you are likely to be disappointed if you don’t change what is happening between your ears and in your own head!

“Your beliefs become your thoughts, Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.”

― Gandhi
